Ratings you can
actually audit.

Sylvera rates carbon credits. Companies, investors and governments use those ratings to decide where hundreds of millions of dollars of climate spending goes.

01

The client

Carbon markets have a credibility problem: a credit is a claim that emissions were avoided or removed somewhere, and buyers have historically had no reliable way to check. Sylvera exists to price that uncertainty.

It rates projects pre-issuance and post-issuance, monitors them continuously, and publishes its frameworks — with an advisory board and a deliberate separation between its commercial and rating functions, so the ratings are not for sale.

02

The problem

A rating is only as good as the data underneath it, and the data is heterogeneous and messy. Satellite imagery, financial filings, registry records and project documentation all arrive in different formats on different schedules, for projects scattered across the world.

It also cannot be a one-time assessment. Projects change — a forest burns, a methodology is revised, a developer misses a milestone — so monitoring has to be continuous and rating changes have to propagate to everyone relying on them.

03

Requirements

  • R1Automated ingestion of remote sensing, financial and project data
  • R2A live database of 20,000+ carbon projects, searchable and filterable
  • R3Pre-issuance, post-issuance and early-stage rating workflows
  • R4Continuous monitoring with alerts on performance or rating changes
  • R5Jurisdictional insight and market intelligence on prices and policy
  • R6Procurement support connecting buyers to vetted suppliers

04

The solution

We delivered a data-intensive platform built around automated ingestion, so analysts spend their time on judgement rather than on collecting and cleaning inputs.

Where the engineering effort concentrates: ingestion and change detection. Rating a project once is tractable; keeping 20,000 ratings current as the underlying data shifts is what makes this a platform rather than a report.

05

The work

  • 01Ingestion pipelines. Automated intake of remote sensing, financial and project documentation data.
  • 02Project explorer. A live, searchable database of 20,000+ carbon projects, filterable by region and methodology.
  • 03Ratings workflows. Support for pre-issuance, post-issuance and early-stage project ratings.
  • 04Monitoring & alerts. Continuous tracking with alerts on performance and rating changes.
  • 05Market intelligence. Real-time data on prices, policies, risks and methodology performance.
  • 06Procurement. Tooling connecting buyers to vetted suppliers with simplified sourcing and settlement.
